Day 10 - Brown

The leaves have began to fall, not all of them, but the oaks have started early. I don't particularly enjoy this part of Autumn. As some of you may know, I'm not a fan of brown, which is probably why I adjusted the hue in this photo towards the red spectra. Too many days of the year up here are dominated by various shades of brown, all of them just as boring... well, to me anyway. I like a little color in my photos.

Speaking of color. I sometimes get the question "what is your favorite color?" But I never have an answer to that. I like a lot of colors, but none more than the other. I'm drawn to color combinations instead. A color on its own is boring. Several together are a lot more interesting. However, there are just too many combinations to chose from for me to pick just one. So, this time, as so very often when I shoot brown things, I'm not satisfied with what I get and have to tweak a things bit to get the combinations right.

What's you favorite color? :)

  1. I like it and have to confess I often take the browner and more boring and make them warmer and more interesting too. Hey, you are the artist and you are not attempting to simply show exactly what you saw but instead either what you feel or want to feel. That's good. If we wanted everything to simply be true representations, we'd simply put everything on automatic and send out monkeys to do the job.
I really like your image. You've managed to take something that could be dreary and made it feel nice and the little drops of water and the bit of greenery make it look like nice and cozy. I can almost hear the crackle of your feet walking across. Well done!

    1. Thank you. You're absolutely right, that's why photography is an art. Modern post-ed technology has just helped us enhance it.

  2. This would have been a perfect shot for Marga's theme - What does this make you think of? It makes me think of a salmon swimming upstream, or someone following the beat of his own drummer. So what if it's Fall, that little plant wants to grow...NOW! Nice capture of this little vignette of nature.

    1. Thank you for sharing Carol. I thought of that little plant too. It's quite cool to see "life" and "death" together in this early autumn.

  3. I love brown leaves, especially when they are a little bit frozen in winter, I love the cracking sound ;) Also when they are dry in autumn I love to walk through them and occasionally kick a bit around.
The greens look stil very fresh, must have benefitted from the rain.

    1. Haha, it seems you're still a young girl at heart :). That's great, keep on kicking those leaves, I love people who keep the child within them alive, they're so much fun to hang out with.

  4. Haha, you remind me of a vacation I took...to a place where everything was green, and filled with their state bird the mosquito running rampant in every shady spot. When I came home I said brown, brown, wonderful brown. Sometimes ya just gotta love what you have.

    1. Haha, yeah, I guess so. It would take a lot to make me say that when the winter's here though ;)

  5. I like the duality of the brown leaves with the green sprout coming through. Sort if a Yin Yang thing with things dying and being reborn.

    1. Thank you. Funny you should say that, this shot immediately got me thinking of your Yin Yang shot :)

  6. I don't actually mind brown in photos, so long as it's done un-boringly (which you've done)! I wouldn't have thought you tweaked the colours, it looks how I'd imagine them sitting on the ground. The brown interspersed with green definitely does make it more interesting. My favourite colour is probably still purple, but I find I also like colour combinations.

    1. Thank you. Then I'll guess that the frog is your favorite animal :-). I haven't tweaked the colors much though, just enough to make it less boring.
